Bangkok: The Big Mango

It's the sunsets and curry smells that earn Bangkok its nickname The Big Mango. My sister and I went to Chiang Mai and a small village three years ago and loved it - the friendly people and the food, curries and rice dishes, and all that is to see walking around the city, everything so brightly colored and odd and small, and then the huge temples. The same is true in Bangkok, except I think the people are slightly more entrepreneurial or or more crudely, after your money. The tuk tuks seek you out here, they didn't in Chiang Mai.

It's my final stop, I can't believe it! Pictures of my first few days are below.

Said sunset:

The city has so many bright colors! And above-ground power lines! Reminds me of home.

You definitely need fans in Bangkok, I'm here in December, one of the "cooler" months and it has been and will be above 90 and humid every day of my 12 here!

One of the city's many canals

Yesterday I left my footprints in some cement, on Charoen Krung Road near Maha Chak Road, close to the Mankon Kamalawat Temple. I didn’t mean to, but I left 5. Whoops! Kind of cool though!

Tuk tuks are so fun.

They have more fun with food here in Asia. Here's a black-bun burger at Gram on the riverfront!

Books finished: Guns of August about the first month of WWI (#3 Non-Fiction, a yearly record for me if you don't count advice-style books) & Money Power Love by Joss Sheldon, a quirky read set in the mid 1800s and quasi about colonialism and the rise of the British empire and the institutionalization of banking and lending, but mostly about love and the different directions life can take you in. I recommend both with my utmost enthusiasm. And Money Love Power is free on Kindle unlimited!

I finished these awhile ago actually. I'm a quarter of the way into Wolf Hall and more than half way through The Handmaid's Tale. Wolf Hall does not reaaally count as non-fiction but it'll do for a beginner.
